New Shooter 101

An introduction to firearm safety and use

Saturday May 15, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

New Shooter 101 is for anyone with a desire to learn about the safe use and maintenance of firearms. Bring your firearm and we will show you how to use it.

We begin with a class room presentation covering the fundamentals of firearm safety, use, and maintenance. The presentation is followed by three practical exercises. First we go to one of the outdoor bays for a dry fire exercise. You will practice operating your firearm without firing any live ammunition. Next is a live fire exercise shooting at stationary targets. You will learn how to prepare your firearm for operation and accurately shoot at targets. Finally you will have an opportunity to shoot a competition style course of fire.

All activities are supervised by nationally certified range officers and instructors. You can take part in as much or as little as you wish. You should bring something for taking notes. If you want to take part in the range exercise bring:

  • eye and ear protection
  • a firearm chambered in a common metallic cartridge
  • Ammunition suitable for target shooting / training. Full power and defensive loads are OK but magnums damage our targets and make a lot of noise which can detract from the learning experience.

If you have accessories like a belt, holster or magazine pouches bring them. If you don’t we will find a way to accommodate whatever you have. We shoot outside so dress for the weather.

There is no fee for the clinic but donations are cheerfully accepted.

Attendance is open to anyone. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
The class is hosted by Livingston Gun Club at 2440 Hunter Road in Brighton.
Seating is limited to 30.
